“Buzzing through Time: The Interplay of Ecology, Evolution, and Humans on Bees’ Recent History”

At 2 pm on Friday the 6th Associate Professor Margarita López-Uribe from Penn State University, member of the assessment committee, will give a talk at Kommunehospitalet, building 7 on the ground floor, entitled  “Buzzing through Time: The Interplay of Ecology, Evolution, and Humans on Bees’ Recent History”

Bees have undergone significant ecological and evolutionary changes due to human activities. In this presentation, I will provide an overview of our research on how the origins and expansion of agriculture have influenced these changes in bee populations. By integrating approaches from population genomics, ecophysiology, chemical ecology, and community ecology, I will highlight our findings on the ecology and evolutionary recent history of squash bees, which illustrate their adaptations to agricultural environments.
