Day 2 - Mapping out the future of holobionts and hologenomic research
The guiding principle of the day: How do we help each other launch and synergize holobiont centers across the world?
Day 2 will be based around group discussion, with the eventual aim of putting together a roadmap for future holobiont research, inspired by: http://www.phytobiomes.org/Roadmap/Documents/PhytobiomesRoadmap.pdf
Additional purposes are to map dreams and competences and build new relationships.
Participants will be formed into 5 groups of 5-6 people, for discussion in four sessions (each session with a new group composition). Each session will consist of 20 minutes of group discussion, followed by a maximum of 4 minutes for reporting back (per group), followed by 20 minutes of subsequent plenary discussion aimed at finding common themes.
0830-0900: Morning coffee and baked goods
0900-0910 Intro to the day (Tom Gilbert & Seth Bordenstein)
0910-1010 Question 1: What scientific or educational priorities will propel holobiont research?
1010-1030 Break
1030-1130 Question 2: Can we actually address these priorities? What tools are available?
1200-1300 Lunch
1300-1400 Question 3: What barriers or challenges exist to your scholarship and building up an organization (e.g., Center, Institute, local vs global network etc.)
1400-1420 Break
1420-1520 Question 4: What are the solutions that an international network of researchers can facilitate?
1520-1600 Final discussion - Common themes, open thoughts and questions, where do we go from here?
1600 – END
1620 – Departure of bus to take invited speakers to central Copenhagen
