Grants

Researchers from the Center for Evolutionary Hologenomics have secured almost six million in grant funding from the Novo Nordisk Foundation for two different research projects.

Two new research projects will soon commence at the Center for Evolutionary Hologenomics, after having received almost six million DKK in funding from the Novo Nordisk Foundation.

Professor and Center Director Tom Gilbert and postdoc Juan Rodriguez have received 3 million DKK for their new research project “PopArcX: The role of POPulation scale genetic variation in chromosome 3D ARChitecture and gene eXpression phenotypes.” Juan Rodriguez will be the primary researcher on the project.

“We will analyse a complex dataset integrating several ‘omics’-techniques, expecting to find relevant variation in the three dimensional folding of the DNA inside the cell nucleus. In the future, this will offer a basic knowledge about how variation in an often overlooked feature of the genome, like its 3D structure, can condition individual responses to pharmaceutical drugs and treatments,” says Juan Rodriguez about the upcoming project.

Additionally, the project “3DChipOmics: Integrating 3D multi-omics into gut-on-a-chip models to unveil host-microbiota at the micro-scale” has received 2,98 million DKK in funding. The project involves Associate Professor Antton Alberdi and will be led by Assistant Professor Ostaizka Aizpurua.
